Nothing You Like Is Random
When was the last time you tried something new without seeing it online first? Whether it was a restaurant, book, product, or show, the chances are that something influenced you without even realizing it. Throughout my studies, I have begun to understand that much of what I want, try, and trust does not happen by accident, but rather through the communication strategies at work behind the scenes.
This blog serves as a platform for me to explore the various things I am consuming, be it food, travel, fashion, media, and trends, and examine how PR, social media, and marketing influence my choices. From the newest viral products to hole-in-the-wall restaurants to binge-worthy shows (I am currently hooked on Love Story), I am interested in not only what is grabbing people’s attention but also the reasoning behind it.
I am especially curious about how this plays out in my own life, what I am drawn to, what I question, and what I come to understand I have been influenced by in hindsight. This blog definitely will not have all the answers, but it will ask the questions that make you think twice. Nevertheless, I want this to feel genuine and straightforward. It will be a mix of personal journal, honest opinions, and truthful recommendations. I will not nitpick every small detail, but instead share my observations and curiosities.
The truth is, much of what we consume or care about is never random, even when it feels like it is. If you have ever found yourself hopping on the bandwagon just because everyone else is, same.
If you are always on the hunt for the next thing everyone will be talking about, you are in the right place.
As a public relations student, I have dedicated the last few years to learning how messages are strategically designed to reach targeted audiences. I have explored how brands position themselves, how campaigns emerge, and how engagement is evaluated. Beyond the classroom, I have noticed more and more that I am also a victim of constant influence. As a result, it is harder to ignore the fact that while I am studying these strategies, I am also part of their audience.
This blog is where I connect all the dots.
By combining personal experiences with analysis, I will share reviews of the things I am currently loving (or occasionally not loving), breaking down the trends and their rise to popularity, while also reflecting on how PR and social media shape what feels “worth it.”
Whether it's a restaurant that seems impossible to get a table at, the face mask that is constantly sold out, or the city everyone is traveling to, there is often more happening than meets the eye.
